"I remember being three years old and telling my mama that I didn't need to learn how to tie my shoes because I was goin' to be a cowboy and wear cowboy boots. You don't have to tie cowboy boots." -TK

HISTORY: At sixteen, native Georgian Thomas Karr decided to keep his cowboy boots on and establish a career in the equestrian field. He had worked with the horses for six months before deciding he wanted a two-year-old to train from scratch, leading him to buy a two-year-old Gray's Starlight colt. Soon, he also purchased two cows to develop the colt's ranch skills.
When Thomas. rode his first reining horse, he fell in love with the discipline and technique. He wanted nothing more than to learn how to acheive that skill level on a horse.
Shortly after, he met and began working with Richard Wheatly, who instructed him in the fundamentals of reining and assisted in getting him started on the journey to becoming a reining horse trainer. As Thomas' passion for reining grew, the desire to become a trainer and work on his own became too big to ignore. Richard introduced him to Jim Babcock of the acclaimed Babcock Ranch, and Thomas accepted a job offer. He loaded up his saddle in the back of his truck, and headed off to Gainesville, Texas to chase his dream.
At Babcock, Thomas met Ward Ferch, head trainer at the ranch. Ward put him in the two-year-old department starting colts, which proved to be a great learning experience and gave him access to a variety of colts that each proved to have a unique personality. After spending a little over a year at Babcock, Thomas briefly went to work with another widely recognized reining trainer, Casey Hinton. In a quest to absorb several styles of training and riding, he moved on to work for the well known Brazilian trainer of NRHA fame, Rodger Barral, in Gordonville, Texas. Working with Rodger, the oppurtunity became available for Thomas to have stalls of his own and he proceeded to purchase two well-bred colts, with bloodlines including Hollywood Dunnit and Smart Chic Olena.
In September 2008 Thomas moved to Whitesboro, Texas and is running his own training operation. With his passion for reining horses, developed technique, and incredible feel, Thomas is now offering training, lessons, breaking, and finishing to the outside public. Whether you are looking to tune up your current horse or get your future champion started, you've come to the right place!
